    History is basically the sum total of the mind interacting with the past, as a means of analyzing the actions of humanity. Social Studies analyzes the sum total of humanity.

    History is a part of social studies however, history talks about the past and social studies is more about things like geography, economy, and how the world communicates with each other.

    social studies would be classes like World Cultures or Politics and Economics.
    history would be things like US History.
    those are probably the most common examples in high schools.
