What Is The Difference Between Mp3 Files And M3u Files?

I’m trying to put songs from limewire onto my itunes managed it with the first lot and im now trying to do it again but all the files wont go on it because they are an m3u file. Despite being described as mp3???? Help please.

    m3u is a playlist file ^_^ Mp3 is obviously a single song ^_^

    M3U, .PLS and a couple other extensions are used for playlist files. Think of them as links or URLs to the music data. .MP3, .ogg, .wma, .flac and other extensions are the data files that actually contain the music…
    You may encounter similar scenarios with video content. Example: .ASX is the “URL” to .ASF content or .ram is a link to .RA or .RM content.
