I’m looking for something to check my email, do school work [online school] and check my Myspace. Netbooks are cheaper. What is the difference between a netbook and a laptop? Thanks!

A netbook has an atom processor and no disk drive, and only about four gigs of flash memory. Anti-virus software would be out of the question on one of these. A laptop has a disk drive, a full processor and a hard drive, much better for long time use.

Netbooks are very good for Internet BROWSING not so much for playing online. They are not that good for MS Office ( screen size, cramped keyboard ). They are the “pits” (not that good at all) for iTunes and similar multimedia apps as they are not built for it.
ALL the consumer-level Netbooks* have NO internal CD/DVD drives, NO upgrade path and the following MAXIMUM memory limits:
    Linux based: 512 MBs
XP based: 1 GB (some RARE exceptions have 1.5 GBs)
    * There are newer so-called high-end Netbooks that come with more but they are generally pricier than laptops.
Hard drives models average 80 GBs ( some have 160 GBs )
Other models use SSD** (Solid State Drive) with no moving parts ( good when you move a lot as they are more “solid” (pun intended) ) but these are smaller in GBs and higher in cost.
** This is “similar” to the way USB memory stick work.
Newer laptops are meant as desktop replacements, are not so portable because of that but can do much more, have bigger internal hard drives, bigger screens (from 15.6″ to 18″ at the moment), bigger memory (RAM), a CD/DVD/BlueRay drive or burner and some provision for upgrade (more or less depending on manufacturer).
Some laptops are actually affordable for what they offer !
Notebooks are slimmer (for transportability) versions of laptops with screens ranging from 13″ to 15.6″ but the rest is similar to their big brothers.

    Hiya,
A Netbook is a scaled down version of Laptop, usually minus the CD drive built in. Yes, you can use skype, yahoo mssenger, Myspace …etc. I have a Acer that I got on Netbook2.com and it works fine. I hope that helps.

netbooks are only used for surfing the web and light applications. but laptops can more applications and tackle more challenging programs. netbooks are also considerably smaller making them really portable.
