What Do You Consider To Be Better Laptop Or Netbook?

February 20th, 2010 by admin | Filed under technie stuff.

i am trying to decide whether to get my daughter a netbook or laptop for College. She doesn’t really want to carry anything to heavy as she has quite a bit of walking to do. What are your views on both? Do you know which are the lightest laptops in weight?

    Hi Buddy,
I would compare laptop and a netbook.
Why I Would Want A Netbook over Laptop
    1. It is light, easy to be carried to anywhere
    2. I only use it for working with office documents, spreadsheet etc and for surfing the net. I don’t need high processing power
    3. It is cheaper generally
    4. I don’t mind the small screen and the compact keyboard
Why I would want a Laptop over Netbook
    1. I don’t mind the weight, although there are some light-weight laptop
    2. I want to use it more than surfing the net. I will be doing some intensive photo/video editing or gaming.
    3. I need a larger screen.
I hope the above comparison will help you in making a decision for a laptop or netbook.

Ok I have both and I have to say that each one is designed for different purposes. A laptop is a utility tool to work on and is obviously transportable - you can save work to disk, download and upload reasonably well, do hours of online browsing and (in most cases) burn stuff to CD/DVD.
A netbook is tiny (so not heavy at all) designed mainly for browsing online on the go however it doesn’t come equipped with a disk drive so any saving that you have to do has to be to flash drive only unless you rig up an external drive. It is also not all too easy to load software (that originates in disk format) via a flash drive - I am still trying to figure out how to install my MS office suite.
Obviously I am not an expert these are just my opinions based on my own personal experience but it seems to me to be that:
Laptops - are based to work from but are bigger to inhabitate all the great technology and hardware available for use.
Netbooks - are based for light surfing or browsing on the go, smaller because it doesn’t have a drive so if required you may have to think about investing in an independent one.

It really depends on what you are planning to use it for.
Laptops are great for videos, things that are dependent on a better graphics card, Multi Tasking (Such as MS Word and iTunes) and you tend to get more for your money (A more powerful processor, more memory and better graphics)
A netbook is great for portability and they tend to have good battery life. You will find that the majority only run Windows XP, since they cannot handle vista very well.

when deciding between the two you should really think what you need it for, for college id advise a net-book as they are light small and run the same as a laptop in so many ways and the hard drive sizes there is very little in it and also the processing power of a net-book to a laptop, net-books more often than not have an atom processor in and they run at some pretty decent speeds for multitasking and high speed processing. most net-books come with windows xp not vista so that the system resources are not being used up on useless processes that vista thinks are necessary this makes them a lot more reliable.

well i don’t know if the netbook is another name for a tablet, though i would say a tablet would be the best to get her since the tablets can have loads of memory and the screen can actually be twisted and made flat to be like an actual book, they also come with a computer pen for it to use and mine came with a mouse which is pretty good, some also have built in webcams if she uses it for recreational use as well.

Netbooks are very limited and are more or less useless for serious applications. For any serious work you need a laptop. More power, more applications, more memory, bigger hard drives, better processors, etc, etc, etc, etc.
    In essence, Get a laptop!

the new Dell Inspiron 11z (i think its called) is supposedly “all the power of a laptop in the size and weight of a netbook”. 7 hour battery life sounds pretty good, too
