Play

Composed of winners of talent contests and the star of the Scandinavian film Adam and Eve, the Swedish quartet Play strut the kind of girl power not seen since the emergence of the Spice Girls. But it may not be evident from their music, which is generic, synth-laden Europop buffed with slick R&B beats and polished harmonies occasionally marked by flashes of charm (”Disco Hippie”). The nasally vocals and tinny background of a wan version of Olivia Newton-John’s “Hopelessly Devoted to You” is more the norm. The group’s spunky lyrics, however, push the tunes beyond purely inoffensive Top 40 techno lite. No wallflowers sitting at home pining after the boy next door, the girls champion independence, self-reliance, and pride on tra [Read More...]

PLAY is a multi-tlented group and I think that this album and everything they’ve done in previous years proves it.
‘Hopelessly Devoted’ was my least favorite song on this album just because, the way they do it makes it sound too…..happy, I guess. Olivia Newton-John’s way better on that song.
With ‘I’m Gonna Make You Love Me’, I think Faye’s voice was even better then it is on other songs, and Chris Trousdale was perfect for the part.
I got sick of ‘Us Against the World’ very very quickly. It’s a great song, but it gets annoying after awhile.
‘Disco Hippie’ is very cool. I like the ‘Ooh-Sha-la-la’s that they had in that song.
‘Is It Love’ is a slow song that I’m taking to my school dance next year and I’m going to dance it with my best friend who happens to be a guy.
‘Cinderella’ is a great song, too, and it was by far my favorite song on the album. I love the way they sing it. It’s amazing.
‘I Don’t Get Down Like That’ sounds like it was written about a guy at my school who a lot of my friends went out with and then dumped him really quick. It’s a perfect song if you just wanna boogie down some night! :)
Faye and Anais are obviously the lead singers(Faye more than Anais), and I don’t think Anna sang lead at all! I don’t know if she does on any of their songs that aren’t on the album but still, she should sing lead on at least one song!
All being considered, this is an amazing album and I can’t wait for PLAY’s next one!
