Have difficulty figuring out sales tax on an item? Read the article how do I figure sales tax? to find out how to perform the calculations in your head quickly!
First,
Edit it many times to make it as good as it can be. Put it in a drawer, and don’t even think about it, for a month or two, then take it out and do more editing.
Type it in proper manuscript form (http://www.writersdigest.com has the details on what is needed).
Think about joining a writer’s group (local or online) to get feedback from other would-be writers.
Get it proofread by someone who knows what they are doing (do not rely just on spellcheck).
There are a tiny number of publishers who accept unsolicited manuscripts (those that don’t go through a literary agent), so getting an agent is a good idea.
Visit http://www.agentquery.com or, at the library or bookstore, look for Bowker’s Literary Marketplace, Writer’s Market 2009 or Guide to Literary Agents (published by Writer’s Digest). Look for agents that handle self-improvement books and are looking for new clients. Read, and follow, their submission guidelines.
Learn how to write a query letter, which is what is sent to the agent, first (those books will have something about it). It’s half synopsis of your book, and half explanation as to why your book should be published. You have just that one-page letter to wow the agent, so take the time to make it a good one.
Expect the whole process to take lots of time, and expect many rejections. When you are accepted by an agent, they will send your book to publisher, not you.
Except for postage, the entire process of getting an agent is FREE, until a publisher buys your book. That is when the agent gets their portion, usually 15%, of the money that goes to you. Run away from any agent that asks for money upfront.
Good luck!
My mother and I wrote a book together and had it published by Xlibris publishing company. Since then we have sold a number of copies and have done a small school tour. Xlibris will print on demand and also list your book with Amazon and Barnes and Noble. The website is http://www2.xlibris.com/
Good luck and ignore negative comments, every writer has to start somewhere.
1) you should of thought of that before you started writing a lost cause.
2) shouldn’t you be helping us? not us helping you?
