Pines are fast growers, that is why their wood is so soft. Depending on what type of tree you get, figure on four to five years for a two-foot pine to reach over six feet tall.
When pines get taller, they also get wider, so seriously consider where you plant the little guy. The prvious owners of our house planted their Italian Stone Pine outside (They make perfect Cmas trees when young) but four years later the tree is taller than me and crowding out smaller shrubs around it.

3′ - 5′ isn’t a very tall Christmas tree, you could probably grow one this tall in about 4 or 5 years.

If you plant the tree in a large pot you could bring it in at Christmas and put it back out afterwards .Pine trees can grow anything from 12″ -25″+ per year so you could have a small tree in a couple of years .
