How Long Does It Take To Terminate Divorce In California?

A friend of mine filed for divorce in January, but the divorce is still pending with a court date of 2011. Is this normal?

    Not sure why that date is there, its ridiculous.
    In the state of California, a divorce is considered final 6 months after the papers have been signed/approved.
