So you are playing a school instrument and can’t take it to a repair shop because it isn’t yours? I assume you are out of school for the summer as well and can’t have your band director send it in for repair? The first thing you can do is go to the repair shop your school uses if you know it or the nearest one if you don’t know and ask how cheaply they can get it playable again. If they can’t help you, there isn’t much you can do. Some things you could work around or fix at home if you know clarinets well enough. Maybe if you speak to your section leader or your lesson teacher if you have one they could help you fix it. Some problems need a trained repair person with tools and replacement parts to fix though.

go to a well-known repair shop. they can identify your problem and [hopefully] fix it. usually repairs don’t cost a lot of money- my flute used to break all of the time but i didn’t find it very expensive.

    …….
    You don’t.

Do not buy any of the cheap Chinese imports from eBay etc. They will break for sure and then you’ll be in the same boat you’re in now!!!
You will need to have your clarinet repaired. As many here have said, if it’s a school-owned instrument, you need to talk to the band director and/or find out where they have their instruments repaired.
You could also go to a local music shop and get an estimate of how much your clarinet will cost to repair and see if you or your parents can afford it…

Your last sentence is confusing to me. Are you saying that because you play the clarinet for your school you aren’t ALLOWED to repair the instrument?
If that’s the case, let THEM fix it!

You should go to a shop where they fix instruments!
I play a viola and it once broke and my parents took it
to a place called H&H Music Company! They r all over the
world! I heard a good reputation from them.
Or…. you could just go to the place where u purchased your
instrument and get it fixed there! =)
    Good Luck! =)

Find a shop that does repairs. This is your only option. Goodluck!

You take it to the music store and have someone fix it, depending on how broken it is - if one of the pieces is broken in half or something, you may need a new one. But if it’s just not producing sound, it may just have a leak that’s easily fixed with new pads or corks.

You could take it to a repair shop if it isn’t a school owned instrument, if u don’t want to have to spend the money on getting a new one there are a lot of places that rent instruments and u could just do that untill u find a way to get the old one fixed.

    You buy a new Clarinet.

  14. howard says:

They don’t want you to fix it yourself because too often, parents try to repair the instruments and they end up worse off than when they started. You should take the clarinet to a qualified repair shop (usually your music store) which is going to cost you a little bit of money, but then you will be able to play it again.
    Hope this helps.

It depends on how badly the instrument is broken. You say you can’t fix it. You need to either contact the instruments maker, ask your instructor if he/she knows a good repair shop, or ask your friends about it. If it’s just a missing pad or something, that can be easily replaced.
