How Do I Get My Ambition Back To Play Music?
November 9th, 2009 by admin | Filed under sports.I play violin but i’m not very good (acctually I’m really good considering I’ve only been playing a few years, I even won an award that was intended for 5 year olds!) but I can’t play with other people because a) I live in a really small town and b) the only other people at my skill level are little kids. I can’t join any groups for those reasons. I practise some but playing is getting super boring. I havn’t taken lessons for a while but I’m planning to start again soon. Do you have any tips to make it fun again? (I just have to keep practising until I’m good enough to play with people my own age without being a complete dunce : P ).

fire up your cd player and jam out solos against your favorite music
Get out of the effing little town you live in. Explore. Get to a city. Contact people who live in a city. You are better than you think. But you are not made for the back woods….get yourself out there. Get on line w/ people who are at your level. The world is a puzzle and we don’t even try to put it together.
For a long term good experience, make a tape of how you play today. Make sure you speak on the tape and tell the date and what your selection you will be playing is. If you have two pieces you like, tape them both. In a year, make a new tape and then play the old one and applaude yourself at the improvement you have made. I did this with my daughter, who is 30+ now and she still keeps her tapes to remind her what practicing does for most anything. I love her first efforts, although the later tapes are certainly easier on the neighbors!
I think I’d find some nice violin/group music and find the leaf to go with it. Then you can play along and not have that lonely feeling. Just like singing along with your favorite songs.. playing along is really uplifting too. enjoy!!
if there is a college near by you can try to take a music class so you can play. dont be afraid if others are “better” then you and besides everybody has to start somewhere. learn from the people around you in the group. have fun with it or it will eat you alive. in the groups that i have played i have seen too many quit because they think that are not good enough, remember you are who you believe you are if you are bad you are bad, but if you are good then make it better.
