What Do the Bible and Quran Say About Does the Lord Play?

January 25th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in sports

Before dealing with the topic of the PLAY in Quran versus Bible versus sciences, it is mandatory to remember that the total words in the Bible are 788,280 while the total words in the Quran are 77,473. It follows that, the Bible is more than 10 times the Quran word-wise. The PLAY is mentioned 45 times in the Bible (KJV) and 19 times in the Quran, i.e. the Bible mentions the PLAY more than two times as does the Quran. In other words, the Bible has the potential of more than 10 times (word-wise) and more than twice (subject-wise) than the Quran to talk about the PLAY.

In this series, the topic of the Play is classified into six parts, herein is the first part, that is Does the Lord play?

Does the Lord play? In the Bible:

The Lord said that the backsliding Israel, played the harlot

Jeremiah 3:6

The Lord said also unto me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen that which backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the harlot.

Hosea 4:15

Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Judah offend; and come not ye unto Gilgal, neither go ye up to Bethaven, nor swear, The Lord liveth.

The evil spirit from the Lord (God) was upon Saul

1 Samuel 19:9

And the evil spirit from the Lord was upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his javelin in his hand: and David played with his hand.

1 Samuel 16:23

And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.

1 Samuel 18:10

And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul’s hand.

David and all the house of Israel played before the Lord.

2 Samuel 6:5

And David and all the house of Israel played before the Lord on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals.

2 Samuel 6:21

And David said unto Michal, It was before the Lord, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel: therefore will I play before the Lord.

1 Chronicles 13:8

And David and all Israel played before God with all their might, and with singing, and with harps, and with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets.

David was dancing and playing but Michal despised him in her heart.

1 Chronicles 15:29

And it came to pass, as the ark of the covenant of the Lord came to the city of David, that Michal, the daughter of Saul looking out at a window saw king David dancing and playing: and she despised him in her heart.

Let the Lord command to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on a harp in order to calm down the evil spirit from the Lord.

1 Samuel 16:16

Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.

1 Samuel 16:18

Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the Lord is with him.

The Lord does that which seemeth him good.

2 Samuel 10:12

Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the Lord does that which seemeth him good.

when the minstrel played, that the hand of the Lord came upon him.

2 Kings 3:15

But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the Lord came upon him.

Does the Lord play? In the Quran:

Allah created the heavens and the earth (and us) NOT in PLAY!

Surah: 21, Verse: 16

It was not in play that We created the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them.

Surah: 44, Verse: 38

And We created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, in play.

It is the People who are playing even when listening to their Lord’s message(s).

Surah: 21, Verse: 2

there comes not to them a new reminder from their Lord, except that they play with it as they listen

Herein is an example of a conversation between a Messenger and his people:

Surah: 21, Verse: 55-56

55] They said: ‘Is it the truth you have brought us, or are you one of those that play? ‘

56] ‘no, ‘ he answered, ‘your lord is the lord of the heavens and the earth, the originator of them, and i am among those bearing witness to it.

Herein is a question from Allah to whom who it may concern:

Surah: 23, Verse: 115

Did you think that We had created you only for play, and that you would never be returned to Us? ‘

The Pot of Gold and Other Plays

The Pot of Gold and Other Plays (Classics)

One of the supreme comic writers of the Roman world, Plautus (c.254-184 BC) skilfully adapted classic Greek comic models to the manners and customs of his day. This collection features a varied selection of his finest plays, from the light-hearted comedy “Pseudolus”, in which the lovesick Calidorus and his slave try to liberate his lover from her pimp, to the more subversive “The Prisoners”, which raises serious questions about the role of slavery. Also included in this title are “The Brothers Menaechmus”, which formed the prototype for Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors”, and “The Pot of Gold”, whose old miser Euclio is a glorious study in avarice. Throughout, Plautus breathes new, brilliant life into classic comic types [Read More...]

Theban Plays

Review

The Meineck/Woodruff Oedipus takes us to the dramatic and lyric heights of Sophoclean tragedy. — Stanley Lombardo, Department of Classics, University of Kansas

This volume offers the fruits of Peter Meineck and Paul Woodruff’s dynamic collaboration on the plays of Sophocles’ Theban cycle, presenting the translators’ Oedipus Tyrannus (2000) along with Woodruff’s Antigone (2001) and a muscular new Oedipus at Colonus by Meineck. Grippingly readable, all three translations combine fidelity to the Greek with concision, clarity, and powerful, hard-edged speech. Each play features foot-of-the-page notes, stage directions, and line numbers to the Greek. Woodruff’s Introduction discusses the playwrigh [Read More...]

Parallel Play: Growing Up with Undiagnosed Asperger's

Review

Amazon Exclusive: John Elder Robison Reviews Parallel Play John Elder Robison is a writer, speaker, and advocate. He is the author of Look Me in the Eye: My Life with Asperger’s. Read Robinson’s exclusive Amazon guest review of Parallel Play: The first time I saw Tim Page, I felt a sense of familiarity. He was obviously smart but shy, socially awkward, with a different cadence to his voice. There was an undefined, instinctive “something” that told me Tim was a fellow Aspergian. I feel different and excluded from much human company, but people like Tim are an exception. They are my people. They are me. Tim says he’s lived life as an outsider, and that’s exactly how I feel too. As a result, even [Read More...]

Playing Slot Machines With a Winning Strategy

January 16th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in sports

Most people play slot machines hoping to hit it lucky with a winning streak that pays big. There is also the pure entertainment value of playing the slots. While it would be great if there was a strategy that could make you a long term winner at slots, the truth is, there is really no such thing. But if you want to have fun playing slots for as long as possible, there are a few mostly common sense things to keep in mind.

First, be sure that you understand what you are doing when you play slot machines. Know what the pay tables are and what it takes to be eligible to win a jackpot or bonus before you put any coins into a machine. If you play fairly often, you can join the slots club at the location where you play. It is free to join and members get benefits like free meals, discounts on hotel rooms or even free rooms, and sometimes cash back.

Perhaps the most important rule of thumb when playing slots or any game of chance for that matter is only play with disposable income – that is, money that you can afford to lose. Be sure that you are rested and alert while you are playing, and don’t play for a long period of time without a break. If you are tired, you are more likely to make a costly mistake.

It is a good idea to decide in advance how much you will spend on slots during an entire day or trip. Divide your bankroll into equal amounts and play that many sessions without going over the allotted amount during any one period of play. For example, if you decide to play four sessions, stop if you have used up one fourth of your bankroll during any one session. Take a break and do something else for a while. If you win, you may decide to keep playing or to pocket the winnings for now.

If you want to be able to play for a long time, make sure you choose a machine that does not penalize you for playing less than the maximum number of coins. That way, you can play one coin at a time and prolong your playing time on a set bankroll. This goes against the advice you may see to always play the maximum number of coins, but it is the strategy to use if you want to maximize your playing time. On the other hand, if you are playing progressive slots with the hope of hitting the jackpot, you have to play the maximum number of coins in order to be eligible for the big prize. Don’t play on a progressive slot machine if you only want to play one coin at a time.

Remember that slot machines are intended to be fun and entertaining. It can be exciting to win the jackpot, but the primary goal of playing slots should always be to have fun without losing your shirt!

Poker Strategy: Starting Hand Requirements - Choosing What to Play and What not to Play

January 15th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in sports

For beginners and amateurs alike starting hand requirements will help separate you from the donkey’s taking all of your chips when they got lucky hitting a straight playing seven-four off suit under the gun and the skilled player who selectively picks his hands and is almost never behind when he hits his hands.

The first thing to do is to devise either on paper while thinking about the game which starting hands you will play. There are a few ways to determine which hands you should play and which hands you should let go and once you develop this section of your game you will be on your way to playing successful poker. If you have no idea which hands should be played and you just play any two cards or any face cards than let me lay things out for you but first some terminology. The term opening the pot means you’re the first one to enter the pot with either a call or a raise. The term under the gun means first to act or to the left of the big blind. The term suited connector refers to hands like seven-eight suited or nine-ten suited

Hands to play based on your playing style:

Tight players: If you are a tight player and don’t want to play a lot of hands than the worst hand you should open a pot with should be J-10s any hands ranking below that hand should be promptly folded. This does not apply to pocket pairs, which you should play 6s and up but lower pocket pairs should only be played in later position. Hands like K-Q, Q-J, K-J etc… are only played in middle or late position by tight players.

Loose players: If you like to play a lot of hands than the worst opening hand you should play is J-7 and you should play all pocket pairs in just about any position. You also like to play suited connectors, any two face cards and king-7+ suited.

The next thing to take into consideration is your table position relative to the blinds and the dealer. This is of vital importance and is usually ignored or unbeknownst by the common donkey. To simplify playing cards based on position, when you are under the gun or after the player under the gun you should play your tightest, most selective game in this position. Once you are in middle position with about the same amount of players to your left and right relative to the blinds than you can loosen up slightly but don’t get carried away. Once you get to the dealer button or one to two before the dealer than you can play your loosest game but that doesn’t mean play any two cards, regardless of your playing style still no hand worse than maybe 7-6s should be played in this position. When you are in the blinds, even though you have money invested unless you can check your option I usually advise playing a tighter game because you will be out of position post-flop and will have to act with minimal information about opponents hands.
