Is it possible for a company or a individual to find out your age with just your social security number?

Do you agree with this list that boasts the best song of all time as stairway to heaven?

The first three numbers can indicate from what part of the country that you were at when first issue your account number. The middle two numbers are bogus. My birth year is 54 and it is not my middle two numbers.

Not really. The numbers are issued in some order and in recent years they have been normally issued at or near the birth of the individual. Therefore, if your number is close to mine it is reasonable that we were born about the same year. But it could also mean that you are two hundred years old and did not come to this country until you were 150 years old and got your SS card at that time.

Sorry, not sure what Matt is basing this off of. Yes in some cases you can “decode” the social security number to gather other information, the middle two numbers can indicate the year a number was issued. Also the first three numbers can tell you the general date range of issue.
The first three can even tell you where the person lived when they applied for the SS card.

Not exactly. It is possible to determine when the number was issued. Since the IRS has required parents to list the SSNs of their children on their tax returns most SSNs are issued less than a year after the child’s birth. That wasn’t always the case however. My SSN was issued when I was about 12 years old since there was no need to have one at an earlier age.
Also on rare occasions the SSA will replace a SSN if it has been severly misused by identity thieves. That person would have a “new” number but it would not be a reliable indicator of their age.
Then of course there is the issue of immigrants. They get an SSN upon arrival in the US. The date of issue of the SSN would have nothing to do with the age of a 50 year old immigrant.
